Getting started

Create your account, verify your e-mail, sign in to Forgejo, add an SSH key and push your first repository.

1. Create your account

Register at https://codetrunk.eu/register with an e-mail address and a username. The username becomes your Forgejo login and the owner segment of your repository URLs, so choose the name you want to see in clone URLs.

2. Verify your e-mail

Open the link in the verification e-mail. Verification confirms the address and activates your Forgejo account. Until you verify, repository access and the MCP server stay disabled.

If the mail does not arrive, check spam first, then request a new link from the verification notice in the app.

3. Sign in to Forgejo

Forgejo 17, the Git server behind CodeTrunk, lives at https://repos.codetrunk.eu. Choose the CodeTrunk sign-in and use the same account you just created. Your password is kept in sync between the two, and two-factor authentication is handled by CodeTrunk.

4. Add an SSH key or an access token

For SSH, add your public key under Settings, SSH / GPG keys at https://repos.codetrunk.eu/user/settings/keys.

ssh-keygen -t ed25519 -C "you@example.com"
cat ~/.ssh/id_ed25519.pub

Paste the contents of the .pub file. Then copy the SSH clone URL from the repository page: it includes the port that CodeTrunk uses for Git over SSH.

For HTTPS, use your username and your CodeTrunk password, or generate a personal access token under Settings, Applications in Forgejo and use the token as the password.

5. Create your first repository

In Forgejo choose New repository, pick a name, choose public or private, and enable Initialize repository so the first branch is created for you.

Public repositories are unlimited on every plan. Private repositories count against your plan, see Repositories and limits.

6. Clone and push

git clone <the clone URL from the repository page>
cd <repository>
echo "# Hello" > README.md
git add README.md
git commit -m "First commit"
git push

The same commands work for an existing local project:

git remote add origin <the clone URL>
git push -u origin main
